From March 11–16, the twenty-first edition of the President’s Cup tournament took place, organized by the Bulgarian Golf Association and Bulgarian Golf Tours. The competition was held in a pairs match play format, with 44 golfers participating from Bulgaria, the USA, and Turkey.
The tournament rounds were played on the outstanding courses of La Manga Club – East and West, offering perfect conditions and a variety of challenges for the players.
On the first competition day, played in a fourball (better ball) format, the President’s team took a convincing 8:3 lead. However, on the second day, the Secretary’s team managed to turn things around and significantly reduce the deficit, posting a score of 8.5:2.5 for the day.
On the third day, a separate pairs scramble tournament was held on the North course, where Andon Tushev and Ivan Ivanov emerged as winners, followed by Javi Ildız and Dilek Ildız, with Vatko Beshliev and Anton Panayotov finishing third.
In the main tournament, the Secretary’s team started the third round with a one-point lead and once again won more matches, with the day ending 6:5 in their favor. This gave them a two-point advantage heading into the decisive final day – the singles matches, where 22 points were at stake.
The fourth and final round delivered an extremely competitive contest, with most matches decided on the final holes. After 17 matches were completed, the score was tied, and the outcome of the tournament depended on the last remaining matches on the course.
In the end, the President’s team showed stronger play in the closing moments and won the singles 13:9, securing a final overall result of 28.5:26.5 and claiming the President’s Cup for the fifth consecutive year.
The tournament was organized to an exceptionally high standard, and the conditions at La Manga Club contributed to an unforgettable experience for all participants. Once again, the event reinforced its reputation as one of the most prestigious and anticipated golf events on the calendar.
