10th Bulgarian Amateur Open Championship
98 players from over 15 countries participated in the tenth anniversary edition of the Bulgarian Amateur Open Championship, which was held in three rounds at Pravets Golf Club. The heavy rain presented a big challenge to the organizers from the Bulgarian Golf Association, who stopped the game for a few hours during the second and the third round because of the flooded course.
The Championship was played in five handicap divisions – Championship Division: Men 0-9 and Women 0-9, Seniors Championship Division: Men 0-9, Gold Plate Division: Men and Women 10 to 18, Silver Plate Division: Men and Women 19 to 28 and Junior Plate Division: Children (under 18 years) from 10 to 28.
In the Men’s Championship Division the winner was Boris Woelfel from Germany (217), who headed the ranking after the first day and held the lead to the end. Second ranked Thomas Burley (UK) with one shot more, and third was the Czech Tomas Krivanec. For Best Bulgarian player was named Asen Mihailov, who played the first two rounds on level par and took the fifth place in the final ranking.
In the Ladies Championship Division the 14-year-old Bulgarian Sofia Seldemirova showed solid game in the three rounds and deserved the victory with 237 shots. Second was Russia's Sofia Morozova with 239, and third – Ivana Simeonova with 250 shots.
In the Seniors Championship Division, the American Rick Wray took the lead from the first day and finished with a total of 236 shots. Second was Alan Rogut with 240 shots, and third – Jimmy Rigsby with 243 shots.
In the Junior Plate Division the first place was for Mathei Stanic with 82 points, second ranked Tsanko Tsanev with 78 points, one point less scored Victoria Genova.
In the Golden Plate Division the champion was Ivan Boeckmans with 103 points, followed by Nikolay Dimitrov and Vatko Beshliev with 96 and 87 points respectively.
Winner of the Silver Plate Division was Nenad Stanic with 71 points, second ranked Yanaki Yanakiev (70), and third – Dimitar Zhelev with 69 points.
